Size Guide
Last updated:
Your dog has one size: perfect. You, on the other hand, have choices. This Size Guide helps you pick the right size and style for a Woof Tee shirt, long sleeve, crewneck sweatshirt or hoodie, using the most reliable method there is: comparing with a garment you already own and love. Exact measurements can differ between styles and garment makers, so where a product page lists its own measurements, those are the numbers to follow. And if you still get it wrong, size swaps come with a free return label within 60 days of delivery.
Sizes we offer
Most Woof Tee apparel is offered in unisex sizes, in this order:
| Style | Sizes | Fit notes |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Tee | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL | Unisex, straight cut, everyday weight |
| Comfort Tee | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL | Unisex, heavier cotton, relaxed and lived-in feel |
| Long Sleeve Tee | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL | Unisex, same body as a tee with full-length sleeves |
| Crewneck Sweatshirt | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL | Unisex, ribbed cuffs and hem, heavier fabric |
| Hoodie | S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL | Unisex pullover, front pocket, roomier through the body |
Not every design is available in every style or size. The size options on each product page show exactly what you can order for that design. If a product page includes a measurement chart for that specific garment, use it; this guide explains how.
The best way to choose: measure a shirt you love
Size labels vary from brand to brand, but a garment that fits you well never lies. Here is how to measure it:
- Pick your favourite. Choose a tee (for tees and long sleeves) or a sweatshirt or hoodie (for those styles) that fits the way you like.
- Lay it flat. Smooth it out on a table or the floor, front facing up, with no stretching. Shoo the cat off it.
- Measure the chest width. Measure straight across, from one side seam to the other, about one inch below the armpits.
- Measure the body length. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, where it meets the collar, straight down to the bottom hem.
- Measure the sleeve, if it matters to you. For long sleeves and sweatshirts, measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
- Compare. Compare your numbers with the measurement chart on the product page, if it has one, and choose the size closest to your garment.
A soft tape measure is best. If you only have a ruler, mark the points with a piece of tape and measure between them.
Measuring your body instead
If you do not have a garment to compare, you can measure yourself:
- Chest: wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms, keeping it level and snug but not tight.
- Waist: measure around your natural waist, usually just above the belly button.
- Height: useful for judging body length on hoodies and long sleeves.
Body measurements tell you your size; garment measurements tell you how a piece will fit. Remember that a garment measured flat is half its circumference, so double a flat chest width before comparing it with a body chest measurement.
Choosing between two sizes
If you fall between sizes, think about how you want to wear it:
- Relaxed, slouchy fit (the couch-and-dog-walk look): choose the larger size.
- Closer fit (layering under a jacket, a tidier look): choose the smaller size.
- Sweatshirts and hoodies: heavier fabric feels snugger than a tee of the same size, so many people size up.
- Layering: if you plan to wear a hoodie over a long sleeve, size up.
- Washing: cotton garments can tighten slightly if washed hot or tumble dried on high heat. Wash cold and dry low to keep the fit you chose.
Buying for someone else
Gifts are where sizing goes wrong most often. A few ways to get it right without spoiling the surprise:
- Check the size label on a shirt they wear a lot — laundry day is your friend.
- Ask someone who shops with them, or who has bought them clothes before.
- If they tend to wear oversized clothes, go one size up from their usual.
- For a sweatshirt or hoodie gift, when in doubt, size up: slightly big is cosy, slightly small is a problem.
If the size is wrong, the recipient can return it within 60 days of delivery with a free return label, and you can reorder the right size with the same notes.
Fit by style, in plain words
Classic Tee
A straightforward crew-neck tee with a straight cut. A good default if you are not sure, and the easiest to compare with tees you already own.
Comfort Tee
Heavier cotton with a softer, worn-in feel and a slightly roomier look. If you like a boxy fit, choose your usual size; for a closer fit, consider going down one.
Long Sleeve Tee
The same body as a tee with full-length sleeves. If you have long arms, compare sleeve length on a long sleeve you own, and size up if your sleeves are usually short.
Crewneck Sweatshirt
A heavier fabric with ribbed cuffs and hem. It sits closer to the body than a hoodie. Size up for a relaxed fit or for layering over a shirt.
Hoodie
A pullover with a hood and a front pocket, roomier through the body. Most people take their usual size; size up for an oversized look.
How the print sits on different sizes
Your pet’s portrait and name are placed in proportion to the garment, so the design looks balanced from S to 5XL. On very small or very large sizes, the print area may be scaled to fit the front comfortably. That is normal and keeps the portrait centred on the chest. If you want the design to look as large as possible relative to the shirt, choose a fit that is not too oversized.
Common sizing mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Measuring a stretched-out favourite. An old tee that has been washed a hundred times may have grown. Measure a newer garment that still fits the way you like.
- Comparing a tee with a hoodie. Compare like with like: measure a tee to choose a tee, and a sweatshirt or hoodie to choose a sweatshirt or hoodie.
- Forgetting to double a flat measurement. A chest width measured flat is half the garment’s circumference.
- Guessing a gift recipient’s size from their height. Height says little about chest and shoulders. Check a label or ask someone who knows.
- Washing hot before deciding. If you are unsure about the fit, try the item on before washing it. Change-of-mind returns need to come back in the condition you received them.
- Ignoring the product page. If a product page lists its own measurements or fit notes, they take priority over this general guide.
A quick decision table
| You want… | Choose | Style suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Your usual everyday fit | The size that matches a tee you own | Classic Tee |
| A soft, boxy, lived-in look | Your usual size | Comfort Tee |
| Something to layer under a jacket | Your usual size, or one down for a closer fit | Long Sleeve Tee or Crewneck Sweatshirt |
| An oversized couch-and-park look | One size up | Hoodie or Crewneck Sweatshirt |
| A gift when you are unsure | One size up from their usual | Hoodie or Crewneck Sweatshirt |
Matching family or group orders
Ordering matching shirts for a family photo, a dog club or a rescue fundraiser? Collect everyone’s size before ordering rather than guessing, and put all the items in one order with clear notes so the same portrait and name appear on each. If one person’s size turns out wrong, that item can be swapped within 60 days with a free return label without affecting the rest of the order.
Why we do not print one universal size chart here
Different garment styles are cut differently: a comfort tee is boxier than a classic tee, and a hoodie is roomier than a crewneck of the same size. A single chart on this page would be misleading for at least some of them. That is why we explain the method here and point you to the product page for any style-specific measurements. If a product page does not list measurements and you need them before ordering, email us with the product link and we will send you what we have for that garment.
Mug sizes
Mugs in our Pet Lover Gifts collection come in 11 oz and 15 oz where the product page offers both. The 11 oz is the classic coffee-mug size; the 15 oz holds a bigger refill and gives the portrait a slightly larger print area. One pet with a short name reads best on either; two pets fit best on the 15 oz.
If it does not fit: size swaps

Full details are on our Returns & Exchanges page and in our Refund Policy.
Caring for the fit
To keep your Woof Tee fitting the way it did on day one, turn it inside out, wash cold with similar colours and tumble dry low or hang to dry. Avoid high heat, which can tighten cotton and dull the print. Do not iron directly over the portrait. Exact care notes are on each product page.
Size questions
Are your sizes men’s or women’s?
Most of our apparel is unisex. Many people who usually wear women’s sizes choose one size down from their usual unisex or men’s equivalent for a closer fit, or their usual size for a relaxed fit. Compare with a garment you own to be sure.
Can I order two sizes to compare?
Yes. Order both with the same notes, keep the one that fits and return the other within 60 days with the free return label. The returned item is refunded within 7 days of reaching us.
Do you make children’s or pet sizes?
Not at the moment. Our apparel is sized for adults, S to 5XL. Your dog will have to make do with being on the shirt rather than in it.
Need sizing help?
Sizing questions are some of our favourite emails, because a two-minute answer saves a return. Tell us your height, the size you usually wear and how you like a shirt to fit, and we will suggest a size and style.
Email support@wooftee.shop with the product you are looking at and the measurements of a garment you like, and we will help you choose. We reply within 24 hours on business days. You can also browse Dog Shirts, Dog Sweatshirts & Hoodies and the Cat Corner, or visit the Help Center.
